What's New in the PAHA?
The 2009 Annual Meeting will be held January 2 - 5, 2009 in New York City
based at the Hilton New York & Sheraton New York Hotels. Paper and panel proposals are now being accepted for the PAHA Annual Meeting.


Session organizers should collect the following information, which will be needed to submit a complete proposal:

• Session title (of no more than 20 words)
• Session abstract (up to 500 words)
• Paper or presentation titles
• Abstract or description for each presentation (up to 300 words)
• Biographical paragraph or c.v. summary (up to 250 words) for each participant
• Correct mailing and e-mail address for each participant
• Chair (required) and commentator (optional) for the session
• Audiovisual needs, if any

Proposals should be submitted to PAHA Vice President Ann Hetzel Gunkel at agunkel@colum.edu before May 10, 2008. Electronic proposals (in email & word format are strongly preferred.) Special call for NY Polonia Papers Wanted for PAHA Annual Meeting 2009
If you wish to present a paper or develop a panel discussion about New York Polonia, please contact Anne Gurnack at anne.gurnack@uwp.edu, Joseph Wieczerzak@ jwieczerzak@nj.rr.com, or Ann Hetzel Gunkel at agunkel@colum.edu. We are hoping to have multiple exciting sessions about New York. All topics are welcome.


The Polish American Historical Association held its Annual Conference in conjunction with the American Historical Association in Washington, D.C., January 3-6, 2008. See the Conference Program. Read the report on the 08 Conference published in Nowy Dziennik.

 

PAHA will award its annual Graduate Research Paper Award, designed to stimulate research into Polish-American history and culture and to recognize outstanding work by a young scholar in the humanities or social sciences. The award includes the opportunity to present the paper as part of the program of the Polish American Historical Association's Conference. The winner will receive a stipend of $500.00 to offset costs associated with travel to the Conference. In addition the essay will be considered for publication in the PAHA journal, Polish American Studies.


The Award Committee solicits either direct submissions or faculty nominations of substantial original research papers, not longer than approximately 35 pages (ca. 9,000 words). The candidate for the award must be a graduate student at the time of the application or nomination. A current c.v. and a one page summary of the essay must accompany the submission. Deadline: April 15, 2007 (Papers received after this date cannot be considered.) Announcement: on or about May 1, 2007.

PAHA annual conference is scheduled in conjunction with the American Historical Association (AHA). The full information about the AHA conference can be found at www.historians.org PAHA members who plan to attend PAHA conference only do not need to register for the AHA conference, but are required to register for the PAHA conference by sending $20.00 registration fee to the PAHA Headquarters c/o Magda Jacques, CCSU, 1615 Stanley Street, New Britain, CT 06050. The organizational details for the PAHA awards banquet and its cost will be available in November.
